Over the nest few pages we would like to to tell you a bit about the established breeds that the club caters for.

The Devon Rex

The Devon Rex is quite unlike any other breed of cat. The slender body is of medium length, the tail and legs are long, especially the hind legs, and the elegant neck tends to emphasize the head: this is wedge-shaped with full cheeks, a shot muzzle, a strongly marked stop to the nose and large oval eyes. The big wide-based ears are set rather low on the head and the whisker pads are noticeable, particularly since the whiskers are crinkled.  The coat, which may be any colour of any pattern, is very short, fine and soft and its waviness helps create the unique character of this breed.

Cornish Rex Blue Cream Tortie

The Cornish Rex has a medium foreign body type but with particularly long legs and tail.  The head is a medium wedge with a straight nose, large ears set rather high and medium sized oval eyes.  The coat is short and plushy with a highly characteristic curl or wave to it, producing ripples all down the body to the tip of the tail; even the eyebrows and whiskers are crinkled. Cornish Rex may be any colour of any pattern.

Blue Birman

the body, legs and tail are a little longer than the Persian and the ears slightly larger, while the nose is straight and of medium length. The eyes are almost round and must be a deep blue.  The coat is long and silky. The unique characteristic of this breed is its white feet, the front feet having white “gloves” to cover the toes and the hind feet white “gauntlets” covering the paws and tapering up the back of the leg to the hock

The Birman is one of the earliest semi-longhair breeds to be recognized. Although, like the Persian, it should be massive and well rounded,

LaPerm

The LaPerm is a curly coated breed of moderate foreign type which originated in the USA. Unlike the Cornish and Devon Rex, this curley coat is produced by a dominant gene and the breed is recognised in both long and shorthaired versions, with the coat tending to stand out from the body.  Like the other rex breeds, they may be bred in any combination of colour and paqttern.

The breed is still at Preliminary status.

Maine Coon

The Main Coon is a semi-longhair breed of medium foreign type that originated in the USA, and is bred in a wide variety of colours, often with white markings.  Main coons have a rugged outdoor appearance with a natural long coat which lacks the fluffiness of the Persian, but are slow to mature to their final large size. This breed is more rectangular than the Norwegian Forest Cat and the head shape is less angular

Colourpoint

The Selkirk Rex  is a curly coated breed which originated in the USA. Its type is very similar to the British Shorthair, to which it is outcrossed, with a rounded head, cobby body and sturdy legs. as it may also be outcrossed to Persians and Exotic Shorthairs.  Selkirk Rex may be longhaired or shorthaired. Like the other rex breeds, they may be bred in any combination of colour and pattern.

Turkish

The Ragdoll is a semi-longhair with moderate foreign type.  The basic colour is that of Siamese or Colourpoint, with seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream or tortie points and the tabby versions of all of these.  They all have blue eyes.

The Usual Somali is long-haired version of the Usual Abyssinean. It is the same shape and colour, with the ticked hair so distinctive of the breed.  The coat is long, silky and flowing, completely unlike the long, thick Persian coat.

The Norwegian Forrest Cat is a large but elegant semi-longhaired breed originating as an outdoor working cat on Norwegian farms and its appearance should reflect this heritage.  It is slow to mature, sometimes taking up to four years to develop fully, and has a distinctive double coat, but coat colour and pattern are irrelevant. These cats are descended from imported stock with no outcross to other breeds.
